RVT – Small Animal Anesthesia

We are looking for skilled technicians to join our Anesthesia department! In collaboration with Board-Certified Anesthesiologists, you will develop protocols and administer sedation and anesthesia for both routine and complex cases.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing pre-anesthetic patient evaluations, communicating with other departments to discuss transfer of care and scheduling of procedures.
  • Working in partnership with the Anesthesiologist to develop individualized sedation/anesthetic protocols based on the patient and procedure.
  • Ensuring adequate analgesia is provided through multi-modal pain management, including via advanced regional anesthetic techniques.
  • Providing continuous monitoring throughout the anesthetic period.
  • Assisting with recovery and postoperative care, rounding of patients back to their respective departments or to the ICU.
  • Maintaining anesthetic equipment and supplies.
  • Participating in continuing education opportunities to stay up to date on the latest developments and innovation in anesthesia.

We will provide training on leading diagnostics and equipment including our 3.0 T MRI, 128-slice GE CT, digital x-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, peripheral nerve stimulator, in-house IDEXX lab equipment, and more.

RVT – Small Animal Intensive Care Unit

We are seeking experienced Registered Veterinary Technicians to join our Small Animal Intensive Care Unit. Under the direction of the Board-Certified Criticalist, you will utilize your skills to provide the highest level of care to critically ill patients. You will have the opportunity to develop expertise in areas such as central line placement, arterial catheters, complex CRI management, transfusion medicine, and ventilation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing exceptional nursing care and support to patients in the ICU, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and performing treatments.
  • Working collaboratively with the veterinary team to provide advanced care, including mechanical ventilation, advanced wound care, and hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Obtaining and processing samples using in-house diagnostic lab equipment.
  • Preparing and maintaining detailed medical records, including patient histories, treatment plans, and diagnostic results, using EzyVet and VetRadar.
  • Communicating with pet owners to provide updates on their pet’s condition.
  • Participating in continuing education and professional development to stay up to date on the latest innovations and developments in emergency and critical care.

As our ICU offers 24-hour care, this position requires coverage for a variety of shifts including daytime, overnights, swing shifts, weekends, and holidays.

King Animal Hospital is a new, privately owned, 4-storey, 55,000 sq ft, equine, and small animal multi-specialty referral and emergency hospital located on 50 acres in King City, ON.

We are building our team and would like to welcome  Veterinarian, Rehabilitation Services to join our team for Small Animal & Equine

We have thoughtfully designed the hospital for both employee wellness and high standards of excellence in patient care.

You will be part of a strong, collaborative, multi-disciplinary team of approximately 120 staff including Board Certified Specialists in Small Animal & Equine Surgery, Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Neurology, Anesthesia, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Emergency, and Rehabilitation.

The Hospital includes 6 small animal operating rooms and 2 operating rooms for equine, cameras for remote monitoring, 16 exam rooms, 2 x-ray rooms, ICU, 2 large euthanasia rooms with private exits, an MDRD room, employee lounge areas, an employee gym, staff kitchens, locker rooms, showers, on-call overnight rooms.

There is a rehabilitation centre for both equine and small animal including 3 canine hydrotherapy treadmills, a regular canine treadmill, an equine hydrotherapy treadmill, a canine rehabilitation pool, laser therapy (Companion Level 4), 6000 sq ft indoor equine ring, and a hyperbaric chamber.

Our advanced diagnostics and tools include a 3T MRI (GE) for small animal, 1.5 MRI (Siemens) for equine, CT-Scan with a robotic arm for equine (Universal Medical System), CT Scan for small animal (GE128 slice), C-arm, ultrasound, endoscopy, gastroscopy, arthroscopy, and laparoscopy towers, one of only two Hyperbaric Chambers in Canada (Sechrist Veterinary), Laser Therapy, in-house IDEXX lab and Cubex for Pharmaceuticals.

The Position

As a DVM with specialized training in Rehabilitation Services for Small Animal or Equine you will report to the Chief Medical Officer and work closely with Boar Certified Specialists and a team of RVTs ad ACAs.

You will have the opportunity to build out the department with the modalities, equipment, staff, and training as you see fit. We currently have two (2) certified RVTs onboard for Small Animal.

Your duties may include:

  • Evaluating and assessing animals with mobility issues, injuries, or post-surgical conditions to create customized treatment plans that address their individual needs.
  • Providing therapeutic exercise programs, including stretches, range of motion exercises, and endurance training, to help animals recover from injuries or surgeries.
  • Administering various modalities such as laser therapy, electrotherapy, and hydrotherapy to improve mobility, reduce pain, and promote healing.
  • Creating and fitting animals with orthotics or prosthetics to support their mobility and improve their quality of life.
  • Providing manual therapy techniques such as massage, joint mobilization, and stretching to help relieve pain, improve flexibility, and increase joint range of motion.
  • Developing and implementing preventative care plans to help animals maintain optimal mobility and prevent future injuries or conditions.
  • Collaborating with other veterinary healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for animals undergoing rehabilitation.

Ideal Candidate:

Provincial DVM Licensing with advanced Certification/Training in Animal Rehabilitation is required.

The candidate does not need to have both small animal and equine experience.

Candidate ideally has at least 4 years of focused experience in Veterinary Rehabilitation Services. Additional training in Acupuncture or Chiropractic is preferred but not required.

Shifts 

Variety of straight and rotating shifts available including 2 days/2nights/5 off rotation, potential swing shift; overnight ICU focused care. Offering both admitting and back-office ICU monitoring roles. Flexible for full-time/part-time hours.

  • Provincial DVM Licensing.  
  • 4 years or more in Emergency Services within a Referral Hospital is preferred.

The Position

Our advanced diagnostics and tools include a 3T MRI (GE) for small animal, 1.5 MRI (Siemens) for equine, CT-Scan with a robotic arm for equine (Universal Medical System), CT Scan for small animal (GE128 slice), C-arm, ultrasound, endoscopy, gastroscopy, arthroscopy, and laparoscopy towers, one of only two Hyperbaric Chambers in Canada (Sechrist Veterinary), Laser Therapy, in-house IDEXX lab and Cubex for Pharmaceuticals.

Small Animal Rehabilitation Specialist

The Position 

As the Veterinary Rehabilitation Specialist, you will report to the Chief Medical Officer and work closely with Board-Certified Specialists and a strong team of RVTs and ACAs.  

You will have the opportunity to build out the department with the modalities, equipment, staff, and training as you see fit.  

Your duties may include: 

  • Evaluating and assessing animals with mobility issues, injuries, or post-surgical conditions to create customized treatment plans that address their individual needs. 
  • Providing therapeutic exercise programs, including stretches, range of motion exercises, and endurance training, to help animals recover from injuries or surgeries. 
  • Administering various modalities such as laser therapy, electrotherapy, and hydrotherapy to improve mobility, reduce pain, and promote healing. 
  • Creating and fitting animals with orthotics or prosthetics to support their mobility and improve their quality of life. 
  • Providing manual therapy techniques such as massage, joint mobilization, and stretching to help relieve pain, improve flexibility, and increase joint range of motion. 
  • Developing and implementing preventative care plans to help animals maintain optimal mobility and prevent future injuries or conditions. 
  • Collaborating with other veterinary healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for animals undergoing rehabilitation. 

 

Requirements: 

  • Provincial DVM Licensing 
  • Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) or equivalent  
  • Additional training in alternative modalities such as Acupuncture or Chiropractic is preferred, but not required.

RVT – Ophthalmology

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Ophthalmology Department! The Ophthalmology RVT works with the Board-Certified Ophthalmologist to help diagnose and treat various ophthalmic disorders in canine and feline patients.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing the examination room and equipment for appointments.
  • Assisting the DVM during patient exams, restraining patients, administering eye drops or other medications.
  • Performing diagnostic tests, such as tonometry and fluorescein staining.
  • Assisting with surgical procedures, such as cataract removal.
  • Maintaining patient records via EzyVet and VetRadar.
  • Communicating with clients about their pet’s condition and treatment plan.

Medical Device Reprocessing Technician

Responsible for the safe management and flow of critical and semi-critical medical devices and related equipment throughout the reprocessing process including reprocessing, storage, delivery, and pick up with consideration of strict adherence to:

  • MDRD policies and procedures, and best practices in infection control and sterilization.
  • Healthcare quality standards determined by governing bodies such as the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association, Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Accreditation Canada (AC), and the Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC) where applicable.
  • Considering best practices, King Animal Hospital protocols, and procedure manuals and adhering to the provincial laws of the profession.
  • Manufacturer Instructions for Use (MIFU),

Specifically, these duties will include:

  • Operate and maintain sterilization equipment, such as autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners, in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical instruments, medical equipment, and other items using appropriate methods and techniques.
  • Reprocessing scopes, laparoscopic and surgical equipment
  • Inspect instruments and equipment to ensure that they are properly cleaned and sterilized before returning them to service.
  • Preparing, wrapping, and packaging of instruments and equipment for the operating room and other areas where surgical instruments are used.
  • Monitor and document sterilization cycles and equipment maintenance to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Daily control and monitoring of inventory levels, replenishing sterile medical and surgical supplies.
  • Maintain inventory of sterilized and non-sterilized instruments and equipment, ensuring that all items are properly labeled and stored in designated areas.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including storage areas and equipment.
  • Distributes supplies and equipment to the operating rooms.
  • Utilizing protective equipment provided and reporting hazards.
  • Liaising between departments that need supplies, equipment, or instruments and insuring they are obtained.
  • Maintaining the quality and function of large equipment such as washers, disinfectors, and sterilizers through appropriate cleaning.
  • Committing to a healthy and safe workplace for all team members, clients, and pets by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital policies and health and safety legislation.
  • Operates, troubleshoots, and ensures the safe functioning of medical imaging and ancillary equipment.
  • Attends meetings as necessary and is responsible for training, safety, and quality improvement programs/activities as it relates to imaging technology.
  • Provides training to new MDRD technologists with regular checks and direction.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the job classification.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Minimum of Grade 12 education
  • Graduate of a Medical Device Reprocessing program from an accredited academic institution.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent MDRD experience or recent practicum placement in a hospital environment.
  • Knowledge of equine and small animal physiology and disease with regard to infection control is preferred. This learning may be acquired through appropriate veterinary specialist instruction, coursework, mentorship, and/or hands-on training, Such training will be supported by King Animal Hospital.
  • Current MDRD-CSA certification is an asset or willingness to obtain MDRD Certification within one year of hire.
  • Knowledge of cleaning and disinfection products and their use including basic knowledge of WHMIS.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills/command of English, both oral and written.
  • Must be physically able to perform all duties of the position including standing, lifting, bending, and twisting.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload within a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
  • Knowledge of endoscope reprocessing techniques.

We are seeking experienced Registered Veterinary Technicians to join our Small Animal Emergency Department. You will work closely with Emergency Veterinarians and fellow RVTs to provide urgent care to patients in the ER.

Responsibilities include:

  • Triaging incoming emergencies, assigning triage status based on vitals, presenting complaint, and patient history.
  • Obtaining histories from pet owners and relaying this to the ER DVM.

We are seeking experienced Registered Veterinary Technicians to join our Small Animal Surgery Department. You will work closely with Board-Certified Surgeons and Anesthesiologists to provide exceptional care to our surgical patients.

  • Performing pre-anesthetic patient evaluations.

RVT – Small Animal Internal Medicine

We are looking for skilled technicians to join our Internal Medicine Department! In collaboration with Board-Certified Internists, you will assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animals with complex medical conditions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with diagnostics such as bloodwork, urinalysis/cystocentesis, ECG, radiographs, ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, and CT scans.
  • Administering medications and treatments as prescribed by the DVM.
  • Educating clients on home-care instructions and medications.
  • Performing basic and advanced nursing care, such as routine TPRs, IV catheter placement, urinary catheter placement, feeding tube placement.
  • Calculating CRIs, RER/DER, fluid therapy amounts.

Client Service Representatives

We are seeking experienced Client Service Representatives to join our team. The Client Services Representative reports to the Client Services Manager and works closely with clients and with veterinary staff. The main purpose of the Client Service Representative is to provide exceptional customer service to clients and ensure that their experience at the clinic is positive and welcoming. In providing an outstanding client experience, the Client Service Representative will build a positive relationship between the clinic and its clients. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Welcoming patients, clients, and visitors in person or on the telephone 
  • Working patiently, attentively, and compassionately with clients in various emotional states (distressed, angry, frustrated clients). 
  • Work with the veterinarians and RVT team to triage telephone calls and allocate appropriate advice. 
  • Manage the booking of patient appointments, via phone, email and text.

This position plays a crucial role in managing inventory and coordinating logistics to support the smooth operations of our large veterinary referral hospital.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records of medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment.
  • Use of EzyVet Software to maintain all aspects of Inventory.
