DR. NICK WHELAN JOINS KING ANIMAL HOSPITAL

Veterinary Ophthalmologist

Dr. Whelan, hailing from New Zealand, found inspiration in the life of James Herriot, a veterinarian in England's Yorkshire Dales, and aspired to enhance the well-being of animals.

Graduating with a veterinary degree from Massey University in 1988, he initially pursued clinical practice and later returned to Massey to obtain a MVSc. Driven by a passion to help animals with eye problems, he completed an ophthalmology residency at Texas A&M University, becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 1998.

In 2012, he founded the Animal Eye Clinic of Waterloo Region. Before this, he shared his expertise and love for veterinary ophthalmology, teaching at Iowa State University, Massey University, and Ontario Veterinary College.
